The Inaugural Jane Tomlinson Yorkshire Marathon on October 20th, 2013
Director Nick Davies only started running just over 2 years ago with the advent of Parkrun in Newport – a free 5k run every Saturday morning. Now a regular with Lliswerry Runners in Newport, Nick took part in his first 10k race in September 2012, before taking his brothers place in The Cardiff Half Marathon just a few weeks later.
Despite never expecting to run a Marathon, Nick happened to see Mike Tomlinson on Breakfast TV launching the brand new Yorkshire Marathon – York (http://www.theyorkshiremarathon.com/news/)
The Marathon is in memory of Mike’s inspirational wife Jane Tomlinson – who started running when she discovered she had terminal breast cancer and then proceeded to raise funds for related charities with the time she had left. Nick remembers seeing her on TV at The London Marathon and then her subsequent exploits in Triathlons before her sad death in 2007. An inspirational person if ever there was.
Within 48 hours of opening to the public, the Yorkshire Marathon had sold out and Nick counts himself very lucky to be participating. Training is progressing well and includes the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 6th, which will see Nick dressed as The Riddler – so look out for a Green Outfit covered in Black Question Marks!
